Sneakiness in the non-free software world

A recent microsoft-watch article describes a sneaky, under the table update which was installed without any sort of notice or warning to some computers running Microsoft Windows.

I can accept that this is not the typical behavior of any company selling commercial software. I work for one of the companies which sell software for a living, for one thing.

Having said that, this sort of thing is very important though. A software vendor should never install software updates without the explicit consent of the end-user.

I wonder if there is any limit to the brave new “features” Microsoft will force down ordinary people throats. At the same time, I’m merrily typing this on a computer which runs free software, and hoping that some day people will realize that freedom is something that should not be negotiable :-(
